Skills are very important, but ultimately all employers truly want are reliable workers with can-do attitudes. Those are the people who get job offers, those are the people who get promoted, and those are the people companies invest in.
We've said it a million times and will say it again, finding a job can be difficult and at times down right frustrating.
Don't let that deflate your attitude. Having a bad day and letting it show during an interview just wastes an interview.
Keeping positive and treating change as an opportunity will keep the odds in your favor.
And don't forget:
Here are some helpful tips to keep a good attitude:
1. Ten Second Rule : When receiving bad news or before handling something you are not looking forward to, take ten seconds, breath and don't let negativity build.
2. Keep it Light : Laugh. Serious, just laugh sometimes. If you don't make things a big deal, then they are not a big deal. Don't take things personally because most things that happen are not about you.
3. The Silver Lining : There always is one if you look hard enough. For example, you didn't get the job. The silver lining maybe, "I now have interview experience." or "It forced me to finally update my resume." or "It probably was not the best fit for me either."
4. Pay a Compliment : This really works! Being nice to someone else makes you feel good, makes them feel good, and makes you feel good again for making them feel good. -Get it? Good.
